Intro
Are you searching for a specific MP3? IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a service on
the internet that allows people to chat freely about specific topics. Some IRC
channels cover off MP3s. One popular program for working with IRC is
called
MIRC.
On top of Chat it also supports scripts that allow lots of different functions. One such
function allows people to offer up files in a server mode. Users can issue commands
to search and request files from the people offering up the files. I am by no means
an expert however here are some of the commands.
SDFIND Commands
search for title on all servers @find *title*
get the title from server !server title
get the que from the server @server-que
get the list of files being offered @server
to get the latest SDFIND @sdfind
Channels
SDIND can be initiated on any channel on any server to serve up any files. Right
now one of the irc channels that is fairly busy with mp3s is on server
NewYork.NY.US.undernet.org channel mp3tunes.
If you go on the channel you will see the automated requests searching for files, requesting
lists of all files being offered up and requests for specific files.
SDFIND works as an automated way of creating an index file, searching when requests
are made, responding back with the results of the search and then respsonding to
requests to send using a DCC send. The net of this is if you are having trouble with SDFIND,
try a manual DCC send. If this fails then so will SDFIND. Use the MIRC help to try and
fix the DCC send problem and your SDFIND problem may go away as well.
If you want here is the SDFIND scripts that will allow
you to serve on IRC channels. Just follow the text file instructions on how to
install it and control it.
Automating downloads
Ever seen a guys list and thought, Wow he has a lot of songs I would
like? Well there is an excellent package called SPR JukeBox. This is a
plug in for MIRC that allows you to download, analyse and que
mutliple requests from a person. In fact nothing would stop you from
downloading the guys whole list!
